Max Polo, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon and investigator at Skin Care Research in Miami, FL. In addition to his work as an investigator, Dr. Polo also sees patients at Miami Plastic Surgery. He has been in private practice in South Florida for 18 years. In 2014, after building an exceptional reputation over more than 11 years with a successful solo practice in South Miami, Dr. Polo was invited to join the prestigious Miami Plastic Surgery® group. Dr. Polo’s practice is now focused on both non-surgical and surgical aesthetic procedures for the face, breasts and body. He expertly performs aesthetic facial injectable procedures, including: neuromodulators (i.e. Botox), dermal and soft tissue fillers, Kybella, PDO threads, and other methods for facial rejuvenation and hair loss. Dr. Polo also skillfully performs many aesthetic facial surgeries, including: Neograft hair restoration, brow lifts, blepharoplasty, face lifts, neck lifts, and neck liposuction. Dr. Polo’s greatest experience and expertise however, is in breast and body contouring procedures, including: breast augmentation, breast lifts (mastopexy), breast reduction, liposuction, fat transfer for gluteal augmentation, tummy tucks (abdominoplasty), Cellfina cellulite treatment, labiaplasty, thigh lifts and arm lifts (brachioplasty). Dr. Polo is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. He received his initial board certification in 2003 and successfully completed re-certification in 2013. He annually completes continuing education for maintenance of certification. Dr. Polo is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Miami Society of Plastic Surgeons. He has been recognized in his field by peers and by corporate industry through election to several positions of leadership. He is a past president of the Miami Society of Plastic Surgeons and served on its executive committee for four years. He is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is a current member of the Breast Program Leadership Committee for Baptist Health South Florida Outpatient Services. He is a member of the Breast Cancer Tumor Site Team for the Miami Cancer Institute of Baptist Health South Florida. He has been recognized as among America’s Top Plastic Surgeons by Castle Connolly.
Dr. Polo was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He is of Cuban and Italian descent and is bilingual in English and Spanish. Dr. Polo is a graduate of Tampa Jesuit High School. He received an Ivy League undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Biology. He then went on to earn his doctorate degree from the University Of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Polo completed eight years of post-graduate surgery specialty training, including two residencies and an elective fellowship. His residency in General Surgery was performed at the Brooklyn South Surgical Training Program at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. There he received honors as the “Intern of the Year” following his initial year in training, and as the “Chief Resident of the Year” following his final year in training. Dr. Polo then further pursued his interests in wound healing, abnormal scarring and tissue engineering through an elective fellowship at the University of South Florida and the Institute for Tissue Regeneration, Repair and Rehabilitation in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Polo finalized his training with his Plastic Surgery residency at the esteemed medical center of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Polo’s academic experience includes many national presentations and publications in peer reviewed journals. He was honored by the American Burn Association with the Carl A. Moyer Award for outstanding research. Dr. Polo’s areas of special academic interest include tissue regeneration and tissue engineering, stem cell therapy, breast implant and soft tissue filler product development, and breast cancer/reconstruction education. Dr. Polo commits much of his time toward educating medical students, residents and fellows. He currently serves as a voluntary clinical assistant professor with the department of surgery at the Florida International University, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and as an adjunct clinical assistant professor of plastic surgery with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also lectures regularly to community groups on breast cancer reconstruction and he provides pro-bono services to cancer patients through the Baptist Health pastoral care program and La Liga Contra el Cancer.
