Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease that causes raised, scaly patches on the skin due to systemic inflammation. Psoriasis presents differently in skin of color, which can make it difficult to diagnose. On Caucasian skin, psoriasis typically appears as red scaly plaques. On skin of color, this discoloration will be darker and thicker.
